Further responsibilities

Market and Application Understanding
  • Learn what the switching market demands, which architectures that demand is linked to, and how our technology can improve on serving those needs.
  • Interface with business development to translate market needs into technical requirements and steer the evolution of the HISP platform, so it stays compatible with those requirements.
Architecture and Circuit Design
  • Innovate and propose new optical circuit switches and switch architectures, and the control circuits that support them, to address current bottlenecks in high-speed switching.
  • Develop a system-level understanding of fast optical switching, including switching speed, insertion loss, crosstalk, and scalability trade-offs.
  • Design and analyze control-loop strategies for fast, stable switching, including bias control and calibration schemes.
Prototyping and Demonstration
  • Design the PIC optical circuits in our HISP technology required for switching demonstrators.
  • Design and specify the surrounding high-speed control electronics for driving and stabilising the switch.
  • Build prototypes and demonstrators, validate their performance, and present results to internal teams and external partners.
  • Document designs, results, and performance trends, and feed insights back into platform development.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or above in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of related working experience in photonics or high-speed integrated systems.
  • Proven experience managing recruitment processes, ideally for technical, engineering, or other highly specialized positions.
  • Experience with silicon photonics platforms (SOI, SiN) and PIC design.
  • Proficiency in photonic and waveguide simulation and integrated-circuit layout.
  • Understanding of high-speed electronics and control-loop and feedback theory for fast switching.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, combined with discretion and sound professional judgment.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-moving R&D environment, and to work across the optical, electronic, and system domains.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken.
  • Advantageous: experience with optical switching architectures, RF and microwave design, or system-level modelling of communication or switching networks.
